[ Short ] How to Calculate What Any Business is Really Worth (EBITDA)

 

 

If you're buying or selling a business, there's ONE number that determines the price—and most people get it wrong. In this video, I break down EBITDA, the business valuation metric that investment banks and private equity firms use to price every deal. Understanding this could save you hundreds of thousands of dollars.

EBITDA stands for Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization. It sounds complicated, but it's actually the clearest way to see what a business truly generates in cash profit from its core operations.

I explain exactly how to calculate EBITDA using two methods, why banks and buyers love this number, and most importantly—how business owners manipulate it to inflate their asking price. The most common mistake? Sellers don't count their own salary because they take profit distributions instead. But if they're working 60 hours a week in the business, that labor has real value.
